Understanding the Responsive Web Design Elements
Responsive web design is definitely a hot topic in web design right now. To some extent, the popularity of the concept of responsive web design is well-deserved because site users are increasingly diversifying their methods of accessing the website. iPad, iPad, Android mobile phones, desktops, netbooks — we’re at a moment where our internet projects have to work in a multitude of ways.
Let us explore the meaning and principles behind responsive web design.
Key features for a responsive web design
To order to be considered “open” to web design, it has to have three key features. Web designer/developer Ethan Marcotte — the writer who conceptualized adaptive web design — describes such functions as:
- The site must be constructed with a flexible grid foundation.
- The objects that are integrated into the model must be versatile on their own.
- Different views must be allowed in different contexts by media queries.
It is important to note that all three elements need to be introduced in order to create a fully functional web design.
Any layout that requires such capabilities is clearly not sensitive to web design. It’s that slice and it’s clean.
First, let’s dive deeper into these three features to better understand how they work together to give us truly responsive and successful web design.
Flexible Grid
The term grid, as it pertains to web design, is getting murkier. Saying that your site must be made up of a flexible grid does not mean that you are limited to choosing from one of the dozen or so large grid systems out there.
Defining your own specifications for rows, spacers and containers is often the best solution for web design and can be as robust as any existing system.
In addition, many current grid systems use the CSS groups restrictively to determine scale, storage, and alignment. Trying to superimpose these limits on responsive web design can be tricky and time-consuming compared to coding your own grid.
Whether you’re using a pre-made grid system or creating a customized solution, the truly important aspect of a flexible grid system is the mechanics of your layout size and spacing.
To web designers, it means abandoning our precious pixels and swapping them with online designs that use percentages and ems, which are numerical units of measurement.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that we stop working with pixels in our image editing applications (i.e. Photoshop, Fireworks, etc.). Instead, an added step that involves a bit of (totally basic) math becomes part of the web design process as we convert our pixels to web layouts that use a relative unit of measurement.
A flexible grid which varies the format depending on the size of the viewport of the app. The switch of design is demonstrated by a simple, smooth animation.
Flexible Images
Photos that shift and grow with our dynamic grid are another key feature of sensitive web design. Flexible photos also give web developers a little headache. Loading big, bloated objects that we scale down using HTML width and height attributes when we want more text material on narrower viewing devices is not a good practice for quicker web page load times.
For example, how big an issue depends on how popular a picture the page is. As web design evolves, we are constantly seeing sites that incorporate fewer and fewer unnecessary images and photo stock. Perhaps this is a good time to evaluate whether your web design needs to be as image-heavy as it is at present.
The solution to scaling objects is to slice them with the CSS. The CSS overflow property (e.g. overflow: hidden) gives us the ability to dynamically crop images as the containers around them shift to fit new display environments.
We can also have multiple versions of the object on the database, and then automatically serve the appropriate size version based on the user agent utilizing server-side and client-side attribute identification in conjunction with DOM manipulation.
Eventually, we have the option to hide images entirely if we really want to concentrate on non-image material, use media queries which support a stylesheet which sets the display: no image property (or a subset of images by assigning optional images to a category like optional-img to allow greater CSS selector precision in your stylesheet).
Media Queries
Media queries are probably the most exciting (and most intimidating) feature of responsive web design for web designers unfamiliar with them.
Users often get away with media queries, speak of them as the core component of responsive layout, and make open website components unnecessary. The truth is that media queries are hardly useful without the current implementation of a rock-solid HTML and CSS framework which contains not only a dynamic map, but also versatile images.
Media queries allow designers to build multiple layouts using the same HTML documents by selectively serving stylesheets based on the features of the user agent, such as the size of the browser window. Certain criteria include orientation (landscape and portrait), screen resolution, color (i.e. how much light the screen will render), and so on.
Here is an instance of a media request which uses a stylesheet based on the length of the viewport:
<link rel=”stylesheet” media=”(max-device-width: 320px)” href=”mobile.css” />
<link rel=”stylesheet” media=”(min-width: 1600px)” href=”widescreen.css” />
News questions are not simply a smartphone solution or a laptop solution (though they are often connected with it as such). Instead, media queries and responsive layout enable us to think outside the limits of screen size and resolution and start building websites that respond (theoretically) to all the different media.
What Responsive Web Design Really Is
When we glance at the three aspects of adaptive site projects, there really ought to be very little to be enthusiastic about. The reality is that 90% of what makes a sensitive web design is just good web design, to begin with. Well-formed HTML and dynamic format should be part of the daily feed of the modern web developer. What Marcotte has achieved in promoting innovative web design is simply to show us a different way to implement the good design principles that we should already be doing. In a modern context, considering that the need for dynamic formats is even more important today so that we can better accommodate the wider range of browsing circumstances currently in existence, we want responsive and versatile models.
Responsive web design encourages us to take the time to do the right thing, not just how we write, but how we formulate creative ideas and make new designs.
We haven’t been there yet
Anyone who has spent some time working on flexible content and media queries will realize that this is still not the end-to-end solution for building websites that cater to every single user agent. Users who browse the web through different devices often have different needs and needs depending on the device they use.
A user on a mobile web browser will most likely be interested in accessing basic information as quickly as possible. For restaurants, this could mean menus, phone numbers to make a reservation, physical address, and so on. For situations like this, loading the entire site, and then hiding 90% of it, is clearly not the ideal solution.
The Right Direction
What responsive web design is, then, is a step in the right direction. There are a lot of sites to gain from responsive design, and every designer should certainly be able to run this solution and look for ways to optimize their designs.
As developers continue to make progress on solutions that enable our creations to be viewed as designed in every environment or scenario, the users, in effect, must aspire to view the Web in the most optimal and intuitive way possible.
As both sides turn towards each other, they will eventually have more and more opportunities to build an internet that is more diverse, more interactive, and more stunning.
And that’s something worth getting pumped for.

RESPONSIVE VS ADAPTIVE WEB DESIGN
From the giant corporate screens to the little smartwatches, clients over the globe would now be able to get to online data from a variety of sources on a variety of screen sizes.
With innovation readily available, it is basic that the designers make sites that are mobile-friendly and simple to load, view and navigate. In this way, for entrepreneurs making and dealing with a site that takes into account it’s new and old clients is consistently the first and the most basic step towards building an online presence.
Today consumers get to sites from a variety of gadgets. From monitors, workstations, tablets, mobile phones and smartwatches, the scope of monitor estimates broadly contrast. In this manner, building a site that will work easily on some random screen size is a test. Designers today can connect this hole with the assistance of two kinds of web designs for example responsive web design or adaptive web design.

RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN
Responsive Web Design reacts to the adjustments in the program by aligning and arranging the different components as per the given screen size. Responsive Design changes with the adjustment in the programmed width by altering its position plan components in the accessible browser space.
In the event that you open a responsive site on your desktop just as on your smartphone, the content of the site will mastermind itself powerfully on both your desktop and mobile screen spaces. Responsive Web Designs can be seen as they are intended to be i.e, over a scope of screen goals from the 1024 x 768 to the 1920 x 1080 shows and each other goals in the middle. This plan is liquid and clear. Responsive structure sites make a stunning appeal on tablets just as cell phones. Responsive plans bring about zero twisting, better flexibility, and cleaner codes.
In any case, if a website specialist simply takes a look at Responsive Design from a smartphone seeing point of view, he is possibly passing up a more extensive client experience. Despite what might be expected, various designers pick cell phone seeing as the premise of the establishment of viable web design and afterward move in the direction of growth to extra sizes.
Merits
Design is amicable
Can work over different layouts
Can be effectively executed or changed
Website design enhancement Friendly
Great UX
Demerits
Slacking mobile download time
Structure components move around
Restricted command over structures crosswise over screen sizes
ADAPTIVE WEB DESIGN
While Responsive Design depends on changing the plan example to fit the space accessible to it, Adaptive Design has different fixed format sizes. At the point when the site identifies the accessible space, it chooses the design generally suitable for the screen.
At the point when you open a program on the desktop, the site picks the best format for that desktop screen. Resizing the program has no effect on the plan. Every variant of the structure is assigned to a specific browser, called ‘anchor points’. Anchor points advise the program precisely when to hop to the following design. In adaptive structure, it’s not unexpected to create six plans for the six most basic screen widths which are 320, 480, 760, 960, 1200, and 1600 pixels. Apple.
Probably the best-preferred position of the adaptive structure is that it enables the designer to handcraft arrangements with the goal that the GUI shows up ideally on various screen sizes. The disadvantage of this structure is that it could be costly, on the grounds that it requires the designer to make up to six individual GUIs which is equal to six adaptations of a solitary page in order to have the best one fit to be shown with the necessary screen details. Another disadvantage is that adaptive structure may leave clients without a standard-sized screen with no ideal arrangement of review a page.
Merits
For certain gadgets, designers have more authority over UX
Client’s condition can be detected
For shrewd gadgets, advertisements can be streamlined
Demerits
Can intrude on stream because of the steady change in screen size
Takes more time to construct
Not as SEO friendly as web indexes set aside similarly more effort to acknowledge in like manner content on different locales
HOW TO PICK BETWEEN THE TWO STRUCTURES?
Adaptive and responsive sites are comparative, as the two of them change the (UI) of a site contingent upon the width of the program window. Be that as it may, the manner by which they do this is the thing that makes the two strategies unique. With regards to choosing which of the above structures to execute for your product and service it is imperative for you to consider the necessities of your target clients. Apparently adaptive requires more work as you need to structure designs for at least six widths. Be that as it may, responsive can likewise be increasingly mind-boggling as inappropriate utilization of media questions can make for show and execution issues. Your decision of configuration will likewise depend to a great extent on whether you have a current business site or building a site without any preparation.
Responsive configuration has become the go-to plan strategy and it’s idea that around 1/8 sites currently utilize responsively. Adoption rates for responsive are developing in an unfaltering way and have nearly arrived at a similar level as independent adaptive designs.
A responsive site is for the most part prescribed to guarantee the best client experience paying little mind to the gadget you are utilizing to get to it. With the quick progression of innovation, we truly can’t foresee when another screen size will come up. Adjusting the responsive website design seals you from making a further structure to take into account the new screen size. Additionally, with this plan, you can guarantee that your business site is solid at each pixel level and reacting fittingly independent of the program size it is being seen on. Responsive configuration incorporates highlights, for example, reading and easy route and the least of a program looking over, panning and resizing.
Another motivation behind why we suggest a responsive site is on the grounds that sites are made to speak to the style as well as advanced with the goal that they work accurately and your business is discovered when somebody is scanning for a product or service you are selling. Site improvement is critical and the reason for a site is that it goes about as a device to enable your business to become on the web.
Picking with knowledge can enable you to design and execute your plans with a better point, reason and results. With an appropriate understanding, designers can design and execute with an unmistakable reason and convey clear outcomes.

Description of web design and development
Until we delve into the distinctions between web design and web development, let’s think about each concept separately.
What is web design?
Web design relates to the esthetic nature of your website and how the different parts and sections work together to create a successful online environment for your company.
A web designer doesn’t develop a website, instead, it uses tools like Photoshop or Illustrator to construct a model of your home page and exclusive internal sites.
Not only does this give you a good idea of where the development of your website is heading, but it’s a crucial building block for designers when they get to create your website.
It also gives you an opportunity to offer feedback on the layout and ask the developer what you like, what you don’t like, and what you would like to add or remove from the latest mock-up.
Hiring a company that uses both web designers and programmers are key for creating a great website.
What is web development?
Now that we’ve thought about the position of site designer, let’s think about the function of the front-end developer.
Whereas a web designer produces an internal, esthetic structure of your website, the web developer is the one which makes the model work as it should.
For example, if the web design includes three call-to-action (CTA) buttons on the home page, such buttons must be difficult-coded to ensure that they react appropriately as users press them.
The same applies to every product on your website, whether it’s a contact page, a navigation bar, or a basic hyperlink to your text.
The role of a web developer is basically to make the design come alive and work as a website.
Developers work for content management systems (CMSs) such as WordPress and Joomla, but they can also create the website from scratch utilizing languages such as HTML, PHP, or CSS.
Web design vs. web design summary
All in all, web design and web development are two entirely different occupations that are critical for an esthetically appealing yet usable website.
The web designer takes care of all aesthetics, while the web developer guarantees that keys, shapes, navigation bars, maps, and videos work on the site.
Nor is it more relevant than the other when you want web design and software development to make your website come alive.
Web development vs. front-end developer — what do you need?
If you are in the process of building a new website or just want to update your current website, you might be wondering if you have to look for a great web designer or a talented developer.
First of all, let’s presume you’re designing a website from the ground up.
An example of what your new website wants and whom you need to recruit
- Someone to create a wireframe of your existing web design ideas –Web Designer
- Someone to help you understand if the interface you want is feasible – Web Developer
- Someone to create a project that you have from a web designer- Web Developer
- Someone who explains the difference between CMS and HTML –Web Developer
- Someone to guide you choose a color palette for your website – Web Designer
- Somebody to help you decide what your homepage should look like – Web Designer
- Somebody to help you choose fonts for your new website –Web Designer
So, let’s presume that you have an established website and want to do the following:
some example of your existing website needs and whom you should hire –
- Switch from a CMS to HTML or vice versa – Web Developer
- Updates on your marketing – Web Designer
- Fix the broken shape or button on your page –Web Developer
- Modern graphics for your platform – Web Designer
- A shortcut for a website you no longer need or want – Web Developer
- Train you with how to use your CMS –Web Developer
- Aid on database problems –Web Developer

What’s Responsive Web Design?
How could websites possibly keep up with millions of monitors out there?
Responsive web design.
Through adaptive website design, the website (and its pages) will evolve and deliver the best user experience, whether it’s on your computer, mobile, tablet or smartphone. But, in order for this to happen, the website needs a responsive design.
But what’s the adaptive web design, and how does it work?
What is responsive web design?
Responsive web design defines a web design strategy that enables websites or blogs to view (and show) on all screens or screen sizes by automatically adjusting to the computer, whether it’s a desktop, mobile, tablet or smartphone.
How is reactive web design working?
Responsive web design works through Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) using a variety of settings to serve different style properties depending on the size, orientation, resolution, color capability and other characteristics of the user’s device.A few instances of CSS assets relevant to sensitive web design include viewport and media queries.
Is my website responsive?
You will easily see whether the website is open or not in your web browser.
- Open Google Chrome
- Go to your website
- Press Ctrl + Shift + I to open Chrome DevTools
- Press Ctrl + Shift + M to toggle the device toolbar
- View your page from a mobile, tablet, or desktop perspective
You can also use a free tool, such as the Google Mobile-Friendly Review, to see if the sites on your website are mobile-friendly. Although mobile-friendliness can be accomplished with other development methods, such as agile architecture, responsive web design is the most prevalent because of its advantages.
How responsive web design is essential for web designers and business owners
Responsive web design relieves web designers, user interface designers and web developers from operating day and night to create websites for every single device in life. It also makes life easier for business owners, retailers, and advertisers.
Here are a few benefits:
- One site for every device: Whether displayed on a 27-inch iMac with a mobile link or on the monitor on the Android phone, the website would be optimized to the better viewing experience of the user.
- Optimal design for the device: With the responsive web design strategy, all images, fonts, and other HTML features will be sized accordingly, optimizing the screen size of the client.
- No need for redirects: Other options for designing multiple devices require the use of redirects to send the user to the appropriate version of the web page. Without the need for redirects, the user can access the content that he or she wants to view as quickly as possible.
Responsive web design is also successful from a cost point of view. It’s better for you to handle, too, because it’s one page versus two. Additional improvements don’t have to be made. You can function from and modify a single website instead.

Is Your Website a Failure ? 3 Reasons why your Sites Fail And How to Save ?
Traffic is not good, online sales are even worse, and let’s not think about the lack of phone calls.
Everybody, including you, is asking the same — is your website a failure? Not yet, or not if you have anything to say about that. While a collapsed website may seem like a dilemma without a fix, that’s not the case.
A lot of factors can affect website failure, from the slow speed to poor design, but be assured — your website isn’t past the point of no return. Whether with the assistance of your design and development department or with the support of a company that specializes in website collapse, you will take your website back to its former glory.
Are you ready to fix your site right now? Keep reading to learn about the three factors behind a failed website and how to make it non-existent.
1) Your website isn’t fast – Poor page is one of the main reasons websites struggle to do so. Go ahead and check the pace of your page (for free! – from PageSpeed Insights) now.
Why can a slow site cause website failure?
No matter the business, product or service, a sluggish website could prove deadly to the sustainability of your website.
Why?
Users don’t want to wait to load your web or website. They’re on a quest to do something, whether it’s to study a subject, compare service costs, or find a new recipe for dinner tonight. We want answers, and they want them right now.
That’s why more than 50 percent of users leave sites loaded after more than three seconds.
If the pace of your website is more than three seconds (or even two, as most consumers expect the pages to launch in two seconds), you may have found the cause behind the error of your website.
Companies that make site speed a priority will benefit from a number of benefits.
For example, a company that increases its site rate by one second increases its converts by 7%. Perhaps more, we have longer sessions, which means that people spend more time on the company’s website.
How do I make my website faster?
Building a quicker website includes a number of different solutions and strategies, including:
- Compressing web photos with devices like Squoosh and Kraken
- Minifying programming such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS by removing unnecessary characters such as commas
- The decrease in the number of redirects and 301s
- Use web cache to decrease the number of tabs you need to reload your pages
- Boost database reaction times by addressing quality bottlenecks
- And evermore
In some cases, you would require the support of the designer to make these changes.
While you may be able to compact site photos quickly, designing software may prove challenging without the experience of the programmer. If you don’t have an internal development department, you can invest in page speed optimization services to help your company manage a strong web.
2) Your website is not easy to use
Sites can also flop because they are complicated and difficult for users to use.
Why can a hard-to-use website cause website failure?
A page that is difficult to use can result in a website failure for a number of reasons, including:
- People can’t see or find the answers they need.
- People can’t take the kind of step we need
- Users are unable to reach the page
Essentially, a poorly designed page prohibits people from doing what they (and you) want to do.
When it comes to web design, you want to offer a smooth customer experience. People should move effortlessly from one page to another. They’re not supposed to think about what they need to do, because your website has an interactive interface.
Some of the web design elements that can lead to poor usability and frustrating user experience include:
- Navigation menus
- Typography
- Clickable elements
- Layout
- Color palette
Looking at the impact of poor functionality on the performance of your website, declare this fact: almost 90% of users shop with a competitor after poor user experience. It’s no wonder, though, that accessibility is one of the main reasons for website failure.
How do I make it easier to use my website?
If you really want to make your website a place that users and web developers love, please take the following steps:
- Ask your friends, family members, and employers to complete a task on your page.
- Track their acts (and reactions) as they try to complete the task.
- Ask for feedback on the look of your page, as well as what made the project challenging.
Next, list all the reviews and search for correlations.
Of eg, did most everyone comment on how difficult it was to read the text because of its color? And did they mention that navigation was unpredictable in its organization, which made the job difficult?
With this advice, you can collaborate with your design and development team to come up with a few improvements.
Details of some improvements to boost the website and avoid a malfunction of the website include:
- Making the navigation bar synonymous with its location and organization
- Updating a version of your website for clarification
- Site color palette tuning for readability
- Changing the format of the website to boost usability
- Changing the format of the website for better functionality
If you have concerns about how to boost the ease of use of your page, you can always collaborate with a web design company. like Innovins Pvt ltd
3) Your website is not designed for SEO
Sites without Search Engine Optimization (SEO) may also collapse. Is your website using SEO?
Why can an unoptimized website cause website failure?
Where do you go when you’re planning to buy something? Very probably, the Internet.
Whether you’re going to Amazon, Youtube, and Twitter, you’re using the Internet to look at your choices, compare costs, or (in some cases) make your order. Studies show that around 80 percent of people conduct online product analysis.
Nevertheless, the Internet has more than 1.9 billion websites.
How can you find people who have never heard of your company, products or services? Search engines.
Search engines, such as Google and Bing, give the business away to spot users on your target market. That’s because search engines compile a list of search results that feature websites across the web.
If your page features in the rankings, you have an opportunity to get in touch with your target.
Nevertheless, the presence of search results does not ensure a cure for error of the website. You need to show for the most effect on the first page of the report because most people adhere to the first page. For eg, only 25% of users go to the second page of the data.
How can the company make a top spot in search results? With SEO.
SEO optimizes your website for search engines and users alike. While it incorporates a number of technical and non-technical approaches, SEO follows a simple and straightforward objective: to provide consumers with an easy and positive experience.
Organizations that do not use SEO, though, put themselves at risk of failure of the website.
People can’t find the page, and your site won’t get clicks, leads, or sales. The dilemma can get worse if you have a sluggish and poorly designed website as search engines like Google use speed and user activity as ranking criteria.
You can search and see if your website uses SEO (and how well) with a free SEO checker.
How am I going to make my website SEO-friendly?
Although designing an SEO-friendly website can serve as one of the most difficult solutions for a failing website, it also has the greatest impact. You can not only boost your place in search results but also raise vital client figures such as sales and revenue.
If you want to refine your SEO blog, test the fundamentals of SEO, from keywords to title tags.
When you learn the basics of SEO, you can move ahead with your SEO approach. Begin by auditing the website, either manually, properly or with an SEO checker. Your review will provide the basis for your SEO strategy.
SEO plan is different, but they all include an emphasis on the following factors:
- Study keywords and search terms used by people
- Optimizing name tags, meta descriptions, and layout of sites
- Creating new website sites, such as blog posts, which target fresh, high-value keywords.
- Improve page speed
- Build a responsive website that will display on all devices, from laptops to smartphones.
- Networking with industry leaders and bloggers
- And evermore
You can also work with an SEO company if your department does not have the resources or time to commit to SEO. Throughway of SEO services, the organization can customize its content, avoid website failure, and increase its revenue.

WHY SOULD I HIRE A WEB DESIGN AGENCY
The more options business has when choosing a creative professional for designing their website, the more informed decisions they can take. At some times, choosing the right web designer is more challenging as they have to select the right fit for business. After all, it involves considerable time and financial resources and acts as a driver for meeting sales and marketing goals.
Before choosing the web designer, it’s always best to who will be able to meet your needs and can deliver above your expectations. In this case, a business has two options; an established agency with a good amount of high scale experience or work with a freelance web designer. Both of them has their unique benefits and challenges.
WORKING WITH A WEB DESIGN AGENCY

Offer more diverse expertise
Often, large web design agencies employ their SEO copywriters, website designers and developers so the clients do not need to worry about hiring professionals or freelancers to complete their project.
Provide more resources
Many established agencies enjoy larger project budgets because of which they are able to devote a good amount of project resources and better technology.
Offer better, more focused web support
A huge advantage that a web design company has over a freelance website designer is offering web support. The agencies have dedicated personnel to provide web support to the clients. So the clients are more confident with the efforts put in by the agency.
The Cons
More expensive
Depending on the agency size, there may be multiple professionals working within it who provide full-service approach that accounts to higher rates and charges. Additionally, they have more reliable resources and technology that allows them to put on a bit higher rate.
WORKING WITH A FREELANCE WEB DESIGNER
The Pros
Inherently cheaper
Freelance web designers can set their hourly or per project rates which allows them to be more flexible when it comes to budgeting as compared to web design agency. They usually don’t need to worry about overhead, employee salaries or office space which allows them to offer lower rates.
More specialized
Sometimes, freelancers are more specialized in a specific area of design or niche creative services. They can be an extraordinary fit in case you’re not searching for a total site redesign however progressively centered on a specific element to add to your site.
The Cons
Less resources
Most often freelance web designers are working solo and do not have the support of a larger creative team. This means that they can only take on one or two projects at a time. In most cases, website design and development is a big job and often requires hiring more than one freelance web designer to complete.
Tend to offer slower turn-around times
In many cases, freelance web designers juggle more than one project at a time. If your freelance designer is talented, they are probably going to be accumulated with work and will most likely be unable to give you creative services as quickly as you would like. Web design agencies often have customer support staff available to address your inquiries, support your project or connect you with the right person for the task.
Less accountability
As compared to web design firms, freelancers rarely feature public reviews, so the business owner needs to thoroughly go through the freelancer portfolio and past references. In general, online reviews are more reliable as they more often note both the positive and negative aspects of the provider.
WHY MOST BUSINESSES SHOULD WORK WITH A WEB DESIGN AGENCY
Due to the complexity and variety of components in a web design project, most businesses prefer working with a web design agency compared to a freelance web designer. Agencies have the resources and support to take on a full-scale project and offer the ability to support.
While some business owners may choose to hire a freelancer or multiple freelancers they ultimately end up investing significant time and money. Unless your business is in the early stages, hiring a web design agency is highly recommended.

What’s the difference between web design and web development ?
I recall in my early stages of web development training how I found myself constantly confused about the distinctions between design and development. What’s the job of a web designer? What’s involved in working with web design? Our web design and web development the same thing?
The simple answer to that would be no. The role of each of them is completely different from the other. But let’s look at the different roles and approaches, both the web designer and the web developer.
Web design
Think of web designers as those who turn an idea or concept into a visually appealing template, and use their layout to create user experience across the entire website. They’re planning the look and feel of the website. As an architect could create a plan for your house before starting to build it, a web designer could model the architecture of your website before the web developer could start developing it.
Web designers have a difficult role that is often overlooked. They need to incorporate the best user experience possible into their projects and create a user-friendly environment. They need to change the idea from writing to a usable design and interface that attracts the attention of the user. A website cannot be represented as fantastic if a proper development plan has not been implemented in the early stages of the project. Nowadays, web designers are valued at the same level as web developers, because without a great user interface or layout, the product can not really be enjoyed by the user.
Web designers have developed a catalog of technical strategies for themselves. You don’t just create a perfect website right after reading and talking about the requirements or features you want. You begin with the scope — the focal point and the intention of the website. You’d have a rough idea of the designs in your mind first and start with a sketch or concept draft. Through sketching, web designers switch to wireframes, mock-ups, and final design. Professional web designers create the entire website into design components, with a flawless pixel arrangement for all web pages, icons, typography, and other intricate features.
These are some of the main roles of a web designer:
- Using software tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Framer, or Sketch to create the final design of the website.
- Have good skills in graphic design and design of the logo
- Have a good feeling for user experience, to identify the simplest approach possible to achieve the desired function. This includes the layout, the buttons, the pictures and the general format of the website.
- Web designers need to keep up to date with the latest design trends. It is also important to maintain the continuity of layout that is common with other internet giant companies, such as Google and Facebook. It makes the website layout and software easier to navigate and use, as the user’s eyes already know.
- Web designers must also take into account the layout of the website, the color palettes to be used, and the typography and readability of the website.
Web development
Think of web developers as those who transform designs into a live website. Web developers use web languages and software tools to create the design and functionality of a website. Remember that web developers are further divided into two sub-categories: front-end developers and back-end developers. I see front-end developers as a bridge between web designers and back-end developers, because having a little knowledge of both, would make it possible for the front-end developer to create a fully functioning website. The front-end designer is the one who designs the GUI and provides the design as an interaction between the back-end of the website and the client.
Front-end programmers use three main languages: Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript (JS). With these languages, the programmer is able to create a full-length website. From the main design format to the introduction of images, the application of different types of typography and font families, the implementation of animations, the navigation of different pages, the production of interfaces, and more.
Back-end developers are the ones who control the information and requests of the client. Typically a website needs back-end infrastructure when it includes dynamic information. It includes, for instance, users submitting a personal data form (such as creating an account) or saving an article on your blog page. Typically, if the website needs the information to be stored and made available at a later stage, it would also require a server link. Database connections are made possible by a direct connection to the server itself. Therefore, the back-end programmer uses client languages such as PHP or ASP.NET and writes database queries using languages such as SQL or MySQL.
Here are some of the main roles of a web developer:
- Develop the actual interface through which the user communicates with the website. This software was designed by front-end developers using HTML, CSS, and JS languages.
- Front-end developers can use styling preprocessors, javascript libraries, and frameworks to fasten the development process
- Front-end developers provide a markup template for back-end developers so that they can set up a complex website and upload all the required data to the server and databases.
- Back-end programmers use languages such as PHP and MySQL to build the foundation of the website.
- Both front-end and back-end developers can use the same development environments or IDEs (Integrated Development Environments). These are software application tools where you code and create a website structure.
- Web developers may also use versioning software to preserve the history of previous builds. This will help them move quickly and effortlessly back to the previous “unbroken” version if necessary.
Closing thoughts
What does a full-stack developer do?
Full-stack developers are those who have a good knowledge of all the design areas mentioned above. This means that if you are a full-stack developer, you should be able to build a website from scratch, from looking at the layout to making a project mark-up, to managing back-end processes, and server queries. Normally a full-stack developer would also have basic knowledge of development and user experience. Being a full-stack developer does not mean that you need to be an expert on all languages. It’s difficult to become an expert or a specialist in just one of the languages. It is also difficult to learn all the best techniques and methods to be the most successful in all the fields we discussed above. It is also difficult to learn all the best techniques and strategies to be most effective in all the areas we discussed above. Note, web technologies are changing on a daily basis.
Having a basic knowledge of everything about the internet is always a bonus, but I suggest that you stick with the one you love the most, and concentrate on becoming an expert on it. When you feel comfortable designing the front-end and back-end, you can devote more time to those areas that need more focus.
I hope you will now have a better understanding of the difference between the positions of web developers and web designers. Keep in mind that both of them have critical positions, and that the internet would not exist without one or the other. I can promise you that nothing will be simpler than the rest of my life. Working full-time as a front-end developer, and working frequently with both designers and back-end developers, has shown me that all the positions we’ve just addressed have their own peculiarities in one way or another. Only keep in mind that concentrating on one language at first is the best way to get started. Once you get excited and take the first step, the rest is going to be less of a struggle.
Thank you so much for reading!

1. PLAN
Don’t just start designing the website. It’s better to plan how you want your visitors to see the website and navigate. What should be the first page that they must be clicking and the path of going through the pages? Also, the content should be in a precise manner without much terminology and not messy with too many images.
2. INCLUDE SHARE AND SOCIAL BUTTONS
Making great content and deals will only go so far if you don’t give your customers the chance to share what you have. If your website currently lacks social sharing buttons, a lot of social media traffic that has been created by people already reading your blog might be missing!
3. IMPLEMENT CALL-TO-ACTION
Once your traffic land on your site, do they recognize what to do next? They won’t comprehend what pages to view if you do not provide them with some type of direction.
Call-to-action buttons provide the next step the user has to take. Some example call-to-actions are to click on right here for extra information, sign up for a webinar, watch the video.
4. NAVIGATION
When planning your site, the route is vital as it’s the guide that shows the center spots visitors can visit.
When improving your site’s route, there are a few qualities your navigation bar should incorporate such as route chain of importance, and responsive plan, so the experience doesn’t definitely change on versatile.
If the clients can’t discover what they’re searching for, they have no motivation to remain on your site. Rather, they will discover a competitor that offers a superior client experience.
5. LET VISITORS SCROLL ON YOUR HOME PAGE
Don’t worry if designing a homepage is slightly longer. Including 3-5 segments that help direct new and repeating clients to appropriate territories of your site can help make a consistent encounter.
This list could go on forever, but a quick hit-list of some of the more crucial elements includes:
Intro Video
Overview of Services
Product Features
About Us
Testimonials
Case Studies/Success Stories
6. MOBILE OPTIMIZATION
Don’t forget to optimize your site for mobile. If you don’t already know, 80% of internet users own a smartphone and if they experienced difficulty in getting access to your mobile website then they are probably not going to come back and most of them will visit a competitor’s webpage.
It’s a need to tailor your site to fit the requirements and needs of your guests. You should ask yourself, does my experience at present enable them to accomplish those things effectively?
7. NEVER STOP TESTING
Conversion path evaluation, how users navigate, where they are clicking, etc. are some important points that can reveal if your pages are performing well. If you have tons of pages to go through, chances are high that you may find issues on a lot of pages and especially the older pages. Simple changes such as CTA buttons, colors, headers, or adding a few sentences could make small differences in the page’s performance.
But rather than changing them you can use tools to create A/B testing, multi-variant tests, or even set up heat maps to see what users are doing. These tests can reveal a variety of data that identifies why and users are interacting differently with particular pages.
8. IDENTIFY UNKNOWN 404’S OR BROKEN LINKS
Depending on the size of your website, you may actually have a few pages or links that aren’t working.
You should take the time to evaluate whether or not your site has broken pages. Sometimes, you may be surprised to find out that previously high performing landing pages might be unpublished or aren’t properly linked.
9. CREATE UNIQUE OFFERINGS
Converting visitors is the main goal for any company and you try finding all possible ways to move them down your marketing funnel.
But with so many resources out on the internet, it’s now more difficult to break through the clutter and get visitors converted.
Rather than creating a similar offer as your competitors, you could take a step further and create something which catches the eye of visitors amid tons of offers. Whatever you. It’s important to make sure what you are doing is a step above your competitors.
10. SEO
If you want to develop a substantial online presence, then you need to create a website that can get be found easily.
This starts with developing an SEO strategy that considers the search terms your audience would search for. This strategy terms should include creating content that’s relevant to the needs of your visitors, videos, blog articles, etc.
Identify the proper keywords first that your audience is actually searching for and then use them as leverage for your business.
Doing this, you will start noticing the difference in the performance of your website. But all these is not one time task, it should be done on a continuous basis.
